Vaughn Monroe

The bandleader-singer formed his first band in the early 1940s and had a thriving musical career through the war years, playing ballrooms, theatres and one night stands from coast-to-coast. His popularity really soared when he began singing with his orchestra and making hit recordings of such songs as “Ballerina” and “Riders in the Sky” He starred in The Vaughn Monroe Show on radio in the 1940s and ‘50s. He was born October 7, 1911 and was 60 when we interviewed him backstage at the Blue Max nightclub in suburban Chicago. He died May 21, 1973 at age 61.
